How to Add Abhyanga to Your Self-Care Routine

Abhyanga, or Ayurvedic Self-Massage, is an essential daily practice to add into your self-care routine. To perform Abhyanga, first choose an oil such as our Canyon Sun, Emerald, or Breast Oils. If you would like to create your own, start with a base oil and combine with essential oils that are specific to the Dosha you are trying to balance.

To balance Pitta, choose a base of lighter oils like hemp, sunflower or kukui nut and add in some delicate essential oils such as lavender, yarrow, or chamomile.

To balance Vata, choose a base of a heavier oil like sesame, wheat germ, or olive. Add in grounding essential oils like patchouli, vetiver, or ylang ylang.

To balance Kapha, choose an oil base that is not too light and not too heavy such as sunflower or moringa oils. Add in some brightening essential oils like rosemary juniper, pine, or grapefruit.

Wait for the oils to warm and then begin your massage by starting at the feet and working up the body.
